Margaret Stahlecker  - 1993

Margaret Weisshaar Stahlecker was born on Nov. 5, 1894, at Idalia to John and Christina Wilhelm Weisshaar. She departed this life at Grace Manor Care Center in Burlington on May 26, 1993 at the age of 98, 6 months, 21 days.

Margaret was baptized at Idalia on Dec. 9, 1894, the family moved to the Settlement north of Bethune in 1901. She was confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church on April 4, 1909. In 1914 she was untied in marriage to Christian Adolf. To this union one daughter, Lenora was born. This marriage ended soon after. She was married to Edward Stahlecker on Sept. 30, 1917. To this union three sons and three daughters were born. Due to Edward's ill health, they moved to Burlington in 1956.

Margaret was active in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, Hospital Auxiliary and the R.S.V.P. She was a lifetime member of the Immanuel Church.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed baking for her family and friends. Her hobbies were quilting and gardening. In later years she made a quilt for each of her children and grandchildren, all were pieced by hand.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward, son Edgar, grandson Eilert Weiss and great-grandson Carl Beringer, son-in-law, Lawrence Scott, 11 brothers and sisters. Survivors include daughter Lenora and husband Otto Weiss of Bethune, son Walter and wife Margaret of Arvada, daughter Helen Gates and husband Ray Gates of Warrenton, Ore., daughter-in-law Jeanette Stahlecker of Burlington, son Martin and wife Dorothy of Golden, daughter Irma and husband Ray Chubbuck of Burlington, daughter Wilma and husband Glenn Maddox of Burlington, sister Anna Adolf of Yuma, and brother Karl Weisshaar of Burlington. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Margaret were held Sunday, May 30, 1993, at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church with burial at Fairview Cemetery in Burlington. Rev. Ivan Amman officiated at the services.

Pallbearers were Tom Maddox, Kelly Weiss, Gene Johnson, Lance Scott, Kerry Stahlecker and Jay Morrow.

Honorary pallbearers were the grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Music was provided by the Immanuel Lutheran Church men's choir. Song selections were "Take My Hand Precious Lord" and "Alone with God". The congregation sang "How Great Thou Art"

Accompanists were Jean Weisshaar and Rudy Schlichenmayer. Hendricks-Love Mortuary of Burlington was in charge of arrangements.
