Teifield Schlichenmayer  --  1989

     Teifield (Shorty) Schlichenmayer, 76, died Saturday evening.  Nov. 18, 1989 at Grace Manor Care Center in Burlington.  Shorty, as he was fondly called by friends, had been a resident of the center for nine months.  He was born Nov. 21, 1912, in Bethune, the son of Jacob and Christina Bridling Schlichenmayer.

     He grew up in Bethune and attended a country school north of Bethune.  He married Amanda Stahlecker in Burlington.  The couple moved to Elizabeth where Shorty farmed until 1947.

     He moved north of Burlington farming there until 1956.  He then moved into Burlington, where he did carpentry work until ill health forced him to retire in 1982. 

     He married Hazel Otteman Sept. 1, 1965 in Burlington.

     He is survived by wife Hazel of Burlington, two daughters, Joan and husband Gary Brown, Littleton, step-son Larry Otteman, Boulder, Wyo.  Three grandchildren, one great-grandchild.  He was preceded in death by parents, 11 brothers and sisters.

     Services were at Immanuel Lutheran Church north of Bethune on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 1989 at 10:30 am with Pastor Ron Powers officiating.   Burial was in the Lutheran Community Cemetery.
