Loyd Gramm-1999

     Funeral services for Loyd Gramm were held Wednesday, July 14, 1999, at 10:30 a.m. at Hope Congregational Church, north of Bethune, with Reverend Ted Meter officiating.
     Musical selections by the congregation were "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden." Loren Lambert and Denis Stahlecker sang "Daddy's Hands." The Hope men's choir sang "Precious Memories." Velda Adolf was the organist.
      Pallbearers were Melvin Gramm, Jim Stutz, Roland Schlichenmayer, Stan Murphy, Russ Davis, Doyle Adolf, Phil Stolz, Doug Bennet, Mark White, Dalwon Schaal and Theo Bordon. Honorary pallbearers included all friends and neighbors and relatives.
      A memorial was established for Cheyenne Manor in Cheyenne Wells through Equitable Savings and Loan Association in Burlington. Hendricks-Love Mortuary of Burlington was in charge of arrangements.
     Loyd Gramm, a lifelong resident of Kit Carson County, died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at Cheyenne Manor in Cheyenne Wells. He was born to Gottlieb and Lydia (Stutz) Gramm Feb. 15, 1918.
     He married Fern Knodel on Oct. 18, 1942. The Lord blessed this marriage with three children including George Gramm, Ronald Gramm and Judy Langendoerfer. He was also blessed with two grandchildren, Lucas and Hannah Langendoerfer. Lucas was very special in that Loyd had the joy of seeing him overcome his battle with leukemia.
     Loyd was a farmer and cattleman and a firm believer in no-till farming. He received a soil conservation award in 1989 and a carcass award for his shoe cattle at the Denver Stock Show.
     He served on the cemetery district for many years, served on the water board for 20 years and served as a board member on the Bethune School Board.
     As a farmer, he bought his uncle's farm in 1942 and stayed there until the age of 65 when he bought his home in Bethune after his son Ronald was married and began to farm his land. Loyd helped along on the farm until his health failed.
     Loyd had a long health struggle which began in February 1999. He had to undergo a brain tumor surgery. Surgery recovery was a long struggle which called for many hospital and care facilities. He celebrated his 81st birthday in the hospital. He passed away Sunday, July 11, 1999, at Cheyenne Wells.
     Loyd was a hard worker and leaves behind his wife Fern; son George; son Ronald and wife Diane; and daughter Judy and husband Bill Langendoerfer. Survivors also include his grandchildren Lucas and Hannah Langendoerfer; brother Lawrence, brother Edmond and wife Esther, sister Elma Schaal and husband Ted and sister Esther Corliss and husband Mervin.
     Loyd was a member of Hope Congregational Church where he served on the church board many times and was interred in the church cemetery.
