Walter E. Dobler   --  1975

     Memorial services were held for Dr. Walter E. Dobler on Wednesday, July 7, at St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Independence, Mo.
     He was born Jan. 8, 1918, at Bethune, the fifth of six sons of John and Magdalena Stutz Dobler.  He graduated form Burlington High School in 1937, where he was valedictorian of the class and also a cheerleader.
     He graduated from Yankton College in Yankton, S.D., the Andover Newton Theological School at Newton Centre, Mass., and did graduate work at Harvard University.
      He was married to Pauline Schillereff at Fort Morgan, on June 12, 1942.  This union was blessed with three children, David, Margaret and Robert.  Pauline preceded him in death in 1980.  In November of 1981 he was married to Freda B. Martin.
     Dr. Dobler served as minister for several churches throughout the northern and eastern areas of the United States.  He was associate conference minister for the Western Association of the Missouri Conference of the United Church of Christ.  He also had been secretary for leadership development for the Christian Education Division of the church, and had written for the United Church of Christ Board of Homeland Ministries.
     His parents, an infant sister, and three brothers, Bill, Ted and John preceded him in death.
     Survivors include his wife Freda, two sons, David of Yakutat, Alaska, and Rob of Kansas City Mo.; a daughter, Margaret Monto. of Acton, Mass., two step-daughters, Janet Bredehoeft and Karen Puhr of Independence, Mo.; eight grandchildren, and two brothers, Art and Elmer of Burlington, as well as a host of other relatives.
     Those attending services from Burlington were Mr. and Mrs. Art Dobler and Kenneth, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Dobler, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Dobler, Mrs. Edna Dobler, Mrs. Lydia Dobler, and Mrs. Bonnie Witzel.
