John S. Adolf  --  1974

         John Solomon Adolf was born March 24, 1906, to Andreas and Margaret Adolf at Bethune.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church.  In 1932 he became a member of the Hope Congregational Church and was and active member in all church functions. 
        On Oct. 6. 1932, he was united in marriage to Lydia Stahlecker at the Hope Congregational Church by the Rev. Chris E. Maiedchke.  To this union was born three children.  John spent  his entire life farming north of Bethune.  He was a loyal and loving husband, father and grandfather. 
        John enjoyed good health up to the final four months of his life of which he spent in and out of the hospital.  He passed away at the age of 68 years and 15 days at St. Anthony's Hospital in Denver April 8. 
        He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother.  He is survived by his wife, Lydia; two sons, Harold of Villa Grove and Wilford of Bethune; one daughter, Velda of Bethune; two daughters-in-law, Judy and Nikki; six grandchildren; five brothers, Jake and Emanuel of Sterling, Fred of Akron, William and Dave of Burlington; three sisters, Carolina Galli of Brewster, Kan., Fredia Gramm and Martha Weiss of Burlington. 
        Funeral services were held April 11 at the Hope United Church of Christ, Bethune, with Rev. Ruben Isaak officiating.  Song selections, "My God and I," were sung by Butch and Sandee Strobel while the men's choir sang "Beyond The Sunset;" accompanist was Mrs. Beulah Lambert.   Casket bearers were Chris, Lawrence and Raymond Schlichenmayer, Junior Weisshaar, Ralph Adolf and Max Kramer.  Interment was made in the church cemetery.
