Herman Emmanuel Adolf, 73, of Burlington, Colo., Nov. 3, 1991.
       He was born Aug. 1,1918, to Barbara and Gottlieb Adolf Sr. on his parents' homestead north of Bethune.  In the mid-30s, the family moved to Newburg, Ore. for two years, only to return to farming in the settlement north of Bethune.

       He was a confirmed and baptized member of the Lutheran faith which sustained him through his last hours.

       On May 2, 1941, he was married to Irene Weiss at his parents' home.  He spent all of his years farming and ranching northwest of Burlington near the home he and Irene built in 1945.  The outdoors and his grandchildren were his greatest joy.  His health began to seriously decline two years ago with the onset of cancer.

       He is survived by his wife, Irene; two sons, Gary and his wife Marsha, and Glen Adolf and his wife Debbie; two daughters, Gale Coddington and her husband Steve, and Gwen Chalfant and her husband Steve; 12 grandchildren, Troy and Lori Adolf, Brooke, Brandon, and Brent Coddington, Matthew, Linsey, Kirstan and Luke Chalfant, Jenny, Kaley and Samantha Adolf; two brothers, George Wiedman and wife Leona, and Gottlief Adolf Jr. and wife Mabel; one sister, Leah Schick and husband Ernie.

        Interment was in Fairview Cemetery in Burlington.
