Herman was born Aug. 1, 1918, to Barbara and Gottlieb Adolf Sr. on his parent's homestead north of Bethune.  He had an enjoyable childhood playing with his neighborhood buddies, riding horseback  to the country school and occasionally playing hookie.  In the mid 30's the family moved to Newburg, Ore. For two years, only to return to farming in the settlement north of Bethune.
He was a confirmed and baptized member of the Lutheran faith which sustained him through his last hours.  On May 2, 1941, he was united in marriage with Irene Weiss at his parent's home.  To this union were born four children:  Gary Adolf, Gale (Adolf) Coddington, Gwen (Adolf) Chalfant and Glen Adolf.
Herman spent all of his years farming and ranching northwest of Burlington near the home he and Irene built in 1945 - which was his life and love.  The outdoors and his numerous grandchildren were his greatest joy.  His health began to seriously decline two years ago with the onset of cancer.
Herman passed away Nov. 3, 1991, at the Kit Carson County  Memorial Hospital in Burlington on the anniversary birth date of his father, Gottlieb Adolf Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; his children, Gary and his wife Marsha, daughter Gale Coddington and her husband Steve, daughter Gwen Chalfant and her husband Steve, son Glen Adolf and his wife  Debbie.  Grandchildren Troy and Lori Adolf, Brooke, Brandon and Brent Coddington, Matthew, Linsey, Kirstan and Luke Chalfant, Jenny, Kaley and Samantha Adolf.  Brother George Wiedman and wife Leona, brother Gottlieb Adolf Jr. and wife Mabel, sister Leah Schick and husband Ernie.
Herman will be sadly missed by a host of family and friends.
