Leah ADOLF Schick -- 2003

Lifelong Kit Carson County resident Leah Barbara Schick passed away Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at the Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital in Denver. She was 86 years old.  Leah was born on Jan. 24, 1917, the third of five children, to Gottlieb and Barbara (Stahlecker) Adolf Sr. She grew up in the Bethune area, where she attended school up through the 8th grade. She also attend church with her family at the Immanuel Lutheran Church north of Bethune, where she was baptized and confirmed.  On Jan. 7, 1938 Leah married Ernest F. Schick at the Immanuel Lutheran Church.  To this union three children were born; Barbara, Marilyn and Dean.

Leah enjoyed doing many extracurricular activities such as playing saxophone in the summer time band in Burlington on the corner of 14th and Senter.  She sang in the choir and played the piano at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was involved in Bible School and the Ladies Aid at the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the First St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.  She also enjoyed bowling, fishing, crafts, camping, traveling, and playing cards.  She was very active all her life in keeping up her family's genealogy and was a member of the First St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Leah is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Gottleib Adolf Jr. and Herman Adolf, one sister Ella Adolf, one son-in-law Fred Tafoya and one sister-in-law Leona Wiedman.  Leah is survived by her husband Ernie, one son Dean Schick and wife Lolly of Cheyenne Wells; two daughters, Barbara Briggs and her husband Richard of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Marilyn Tafoya of Denber.  She is survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by a half brother George Wiedman, and two sisters-in-law Irene Adolf and Mabel Adolf, all of Burlington.  She is also survived by her only living aunt Nettie Hasart and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services for Mrs. Schick were held on Wednesday,  Nov. 5, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at First St. Paul's Evangelical Churchy with Pastor Paul Viergutz officiating.  Burial followed in the Fairview Cemetery in Burlington. Visitation for Mrs. Schick was held Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003 from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.  Memorials may be made to First St. Paul's Evangelical Church Building Fund and may be left at The Bank of Burlington, 410 14th St., Burlington, CO 80807.   Funeral service arrangements were entrusted to Love Funeral Home, Burlington.
