Truman Hooker-1982
 

Funeral services for Truman Leon Hooker were Wednesday, Nov. 24, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Kanorado.  Officiating were Rev. Roland Dillinger and Rev. Harvey Griffith.

Soloist was Bob Hendricks; organist was Jackie Schlichenmayer.  Song selections were "How Great Thou Art," "Amazing Grace," and "The Church in the Wildwood". Casket bearers were Orvin Kitchen, J. Reid, Charles Rarick, Elderidge Carlson, Henry Negel Jr., John Wells.  Honorary casket bearers C.J. Williams, Homer Winn, Walker Briney, Ray Justus, Vernon Schroder, Edward Bauer.  Internment was in the Kanorado Cemetery.  Hendricks Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Truman Leon Hooker, St. was born Sept. 18, 1911, at Altona County of Bates, Mo., the son of Elich Garner Hooker and Rilla Gertrude Hagen Hooker, and passed away Nov. 20, 1982, at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, at the age of 71 years, two months, two days of age.  He was united in marriage to Theresa Lydia Bauer in Independence, Mo., on Dec. 10, 1931, and to this union were born four children:  Shirley Anne Beata, Rilla Viola, Truman Leon Jr. and Phillip Vern.

The city boy became a farmer, and developed a love for the soil.  he engaged in farming in Kit Carson and Lincoln counties. During a portion of World War II he served his country by working in a defense plant in Denver. He located in the Kanorado area in 1952.  Truman was an active member of all communities where he resided.  he was involved in Kit Carson County Farm Bureau.  He was a member of Colorado Wheat Administration Committee, chairman of Kanorado Methodist Church Board for a number of years, the present mayor of Kanorado, on the board of senior citizens of Kanorado, chairman of the cemetery board.  he and his wife were dedicated to their community's 4-H program. For several years he faithfully attended his wife as she fought a battle against cancer. His wife Theresa passed away Dec. 14, 1978.

After and extended courtship to a lifelong friend, the joy of this relationship culminated in marriage to Gladys Koehn on Nov. 20, 1982, in Arriba. They were attended by 35 children and grandchildren.

He is survived by a sister, Nola Gelvin of Urich, Mo.; his four children; Shirley Anne of Aurora; Rilla, Arriba; Leon Jr.; and Phillip of Kanorado; his wife Gladys and her son Bob of Arriba; her daughter Louise Wells of Cedar Bluffs, Kan.; and a host of other relatives and friends, who will remember him as a kind and loving Christian father and husband.
