Grace Corliss - 1974
Mrs. Sherman
(Grace) Corliss was born to Mr. and Mrs. David William Messing March 5, 1904,
and at Gilead, Neb. Dec. 20, 1924, she was married to Sherman H. Corliss at
Belleville, Kan.
Grace was confirmed into the Presbyterian Church when
she was a young girl. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bethune
until its closing, when she and her husband became members of the Hope United
Church of Christ of Bethune. She was an active member of the Ladies Missionary
and Aid Society of the church until her death.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Sherman
and 10 children: Betty Guy of Bethune, Lowell Corliss of Stratton, Lyal Corliss
of Crescent City, Calif.; Merwin Corliss of Stratton, Albert Corliss of Yuma,
Doris Henry of Joes, Lois Henry of Vona, Mary Gasenauer of Wallace, Neb. ; David
Corliss of Stratton and Ruth Hampton of San Jose, Calif. Ten sons and
daughters-in-law, 28 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three brothers,
Clarence, William and Harold Messing and four sisters, Edith Brown, Lillie Etter,
Ada Boel and Evelyn.
Preceding her in death were twin granddaughters, one
sister, Sylvia Erickson and her parents. Funeral services were held at the Hope
United Church of Christ April 10 with Rev. Ruben Isaak officiating.
Song selections, "Safe In The Arms of Jesus"
and "Beyond the Sunset," were sung by the men's chorus accompanied at
the organ by Mrs. Beulah Lambert.
Casket bearers were her grandsons, Russell, Ronald,
LeRoy and Clifford Henry, Edwin Guy and Verlin Corliss. Grandsons also served as
honorary casket bearers, Theron Hampton, Todd Hasenauer, Tony and Russell
Corliss and Melvin Henry. Interment was made in Fairview Cemetery.
