Emil Schaal - 1970

Final rites for Emil Schaal of Burlington were held at the Hope United Church of Christ at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, May 2, with Rev. Virgil Kellog officiating. Song selections of "Meet me in The Homeland" and "Going Down The Valley" were sung by the men's choir, with organist Beulah Lambert. Casket bears were Clifford, Elmer, Leo, Milton, Louis, and Dalwon Schaal. Burial was at the Hope United Church of Christ Cemetery, Bethune.
      Emil Schaal, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Schaal, was born Nov. 12, 1892 at Yale and passed away at the Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital April 29 at 7:10 o.m. at the age of 77 years, 5 months, and 17 days. He had been in failing health for the last four months. He was a veteran of World War I and served for one year in France. He received and honorable discharge in July 1919.
      He was united in marriage to Pauline Gramm on Oct 27, 1921, at Bethune. To the union were born eight children, Clifford, Viola, Leo, Dolores, Milton, Louis, Elmer and Dalwon. He farmed north of Bethune until 1928 when they moved to a farm north of Burlington. Here they lived and farmed until his retirement and moved to town in 1953. He was a devoted member of the Hope United Church of Christ and attended regularly as his health permitted.
       He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Crist and August. He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife and 8 children, Clifford, Elmer, Leo, Dalwon and Dolores Dobler, all of Burlington; Viola Anderson of Kanorado; Milton of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Louis of Montrose; 6 daughters-in-law, Donna, Helen, Carol, Connie, and Ret and Evelyn and 2 sons-in-law, Reuben C. Anderson and Elmer Dobler; 15 grandchildren;7 step grandchildren; two brothers, William T. of Loveland and John M. of Buhl, Idaho; and 1 sister, Margaret Weisshaar of Loveland; also a host of relatives and friends.
