Jacob Stahlecker-2004

Jacob William Stahlecker, 89, of Buhl, Idaho passed away Friday, Oct. 15, 2004 at Idaho Home and Hospice Caring Place, in Twin Falls.

Jake was born Feb. 10, 10 15 in Bethune to Isaiah and Maria Stahlecker. He was baptized arid confirmed at Hope Congregational Church and there he was a member until , he moved to Idaho in 1954. He enjoyed singing in the men's choir. He was raised in a Christian home with his loving father and family.  Jake's mother passed away when he was six years old.  He was schooled in a one room country school until eighth grade, after that he stayed home to help farm with horses and mules.

He joined the U.S. Army in March 1942 and served with the Seventh Armored Division in the "Battle of the Bulge." He was awarded the Bronze Star, for going under enemy fire to rescue wounded comrades and he also earned the Good Conduct Medal.  He was very proud to serve his country and fight for your and my freedom.  While on military leave Jake married Lillian Schaal in Paul, Idaho on July 29, 1943. After that he farmed in Stratton.

In 1953 Jake and Lillian with their family, moved to Casfleford, Idaho where they farmed for 47 years. Jake was a member  of the Castleford Methodist Church, Castleford Grange and Castleford Men's Club.  Jake enjoyed singing in the church choir and expressing his faith and love for the Lord. Jake was a quiet soul who always thought of others before him. He had great concerns for his wife and children and found joy in sharing in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  He was proud to serve as one of the co-grand marshals during Sagebrush Days 2004.

Jake is survived by wife Lillian; daughter Sharon (Jack) Powers of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons, Wayne (Linda) Stahlecker of Buhl, Idaho, and Howard (Selena) Stahlecker of Cleford, Idaho, a sister Frieda Schlichenmayer of Burlington. Three sisters-in-law, Elma Stahlecker of Colorado, Dorothy (Carl) Kerner of Shoshone. Idaho, and Helen Schaal of Twin Falls, Idaho. Six grandchildren: Mike, Lynette, Gary, Amy, Chris, John. Seven great-grandchildren, Jackie, Garrett, Jennifer, Bailee, Kolten, Ethan and Zach, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends also -survive him.  His parents, four brothers, Albert, Julius, Ed and Ralph, and two sisters, Martha Gramm and Pauline Knodel, preceded him in death.
