Albert Schaal  --  1983

       Funeral services for Aalbert Schaal, 49, Buhl [Idaho], were held Saturday, Nov. 12 [1983], at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, with the Rev. m McNeill officiating.  Burial was held in the West End cemetery under the direction of the Farmer chapel.

Schaal died Wednesday Nov. 9, at his home of an apparent heart attack. Organist was mrs. Ruth Thornborrow and Nelda Reynold sang "How Great Thou Art," Jake Stachlecker [sic] and Mrs. Joe Wasko sang  "My God and I," Irving Tverdy gave a reading.  Active pallbearers were Melvin Reynolds, Bruce Pooler, Evan Cox, Derek Cantrell, George Juker, and Leo Martins.  Honorary pallbearers were Jake Stahlecker, Vern Schaal, Carl Kerner, Harry Martins, Jerry Knopp, Charles Junker, Jerry Hawkins, Woody Thurman, D.S. Wray, and Charlie Cantrell.

Schaal was born Aug. 2, 1934, in Burlington. He later moved with his family to Buhl, where he attended schools and graduated in 1952.  After high school, he joined the army and became a member of the 408th army airborne paratroopers unit. He was discharged in 1958.  He married Helen Mann in Boston on Oct 9, 1960.  They had farmed in the Buhl area since then.

Survivors include his wife of Buhl; two sons, Mark and Craig Schaal, both of Buhl; a daughter, Diane Schaal, Buhl; his father, John Schaal, Buhl; a brother, Vern Schaal, Shelly; and two sisters, Lillian Stahlecker, Castleford, and Dorothy Kerner, Shoshone.  He was preceeded in death by his mother and two brothers.  The family suggests memorials to be made to the Shriners' Hospital for crippled children or to the Buhl Recreation association for the North Park project.
