Martin Weiss -- 1971 Funeral services for Martin Weiss were held Thursday, July 22, at 2 p.m. at the Hendricks Chapel in Burlington. The Rev. James Crow and the Rev. Herbert Schaal officiated at the services. W.R. (Bob) Hendricks was soloist for the musical
numbers, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Milton Sharp. Casket bearers
were six grandsons, Gary Adolf, Lee Schlichenmayer, Dale Schlichenmayer,
Jim Kniss, Richard Kniss, and Duane Hall.
Martin Weiss, son of Carl and Katherine (Statle) Weiss, was born in Ardceese, Russia on Oct. 30, 1889 (*most likely 1890). He came with his parents to America in 1902 to Bethune. He later homesteaded on his farm where he and a son David were living until his death. He was married March 16,1911 to Lydia Schmidke; to this union were born eight children. Those preceding him in death were his wife, Lydia, on June 29, 1936; 1 son, James on June 11, 1937; 2 grandsons, Ray Schlichenlnayer on Feb. 18, 1982 and Ronald Hull on March 13, 1971; three sisters, 1 brother, 2 stepsisters and his parents. Mr. Weiss was a farmer and a veterinarian most of his life. He was hospitalized off and on for two years, and had been in the hospital 13 days before his death on July 19, 1971. Martin was well liked and will be missed by his children and his friends. He reached the age of 81 years, 8 months and 19 days. Those surviving are his children: Carl Weiss, Denver; Irene Adolf, Burlington; Amanda Hull, Tucson, Ariz.; Anna Schlichenmayer, Bethune; Hulda Kniss, Murray, Utah; Daniel and David Weiss, Bethune; also 1 brother, John Weiss of Florida, 18 grandchildren, 1 step-grandchild and 18 great-grandchildren. |
