Anna Schlichenmayer – 2003

Anna Louise was born Aug. 15, 1915, to Martin and Lydia (Schmidke) Weiss at their home north of Bethune. Anna was baptized, confirmed and a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She attended a country school through the eight grade and later was employed by the Harvey Wood family. Then on June 29, 1935, she was married to R.O. (Sport) Schlichenmayer by Judge McGee.

To this union six children were born: Geraldine, Phyllis, Lee, Ray, Dale and Linda. Her time was occupied raising a family, having large gardens, canning and crafts. She took great pride in making quilts for all family members. She also made many, many other quilts and lap robes for Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Aid.

Anna continued to live on the farm until March 2003, when she was moved to grace Manor Care Center. She remained there until her death on Monday, June 20, 2003, at the age of 97 years, 10 months and 15 days.

She is survived by children: Geraldine Carter of Lometa, Texas, Phyllis Hall of Lometa, Taxas, Lee and Jaque of Greeley, Dale of Greeley and Linda Coles of St. Francis. She was a very special grandma to 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Dan and wife Virginia Weiss of Bethune, David Weiss of Burlington; and three sisters – Irene Adolf of Burlington, as well as Hulda Kniss of Murrary, Utah, and Amanda Hull of Tucson, Ariz., as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Her husband, Sport, her patents, son Ray and two brothers, Carl and James Weiss preceded her in death.
