Albert J. Schlichenmayer  --  1991
from the Fence Post, Wray Colorado  September 23, 1991

Albert J. Schlichenmayer, 77, of Wray, Colorado died Sept. 7, 1991, of cancer.

He was born Nov. 6, 1913, to John and Anna Schlichenmayer near Bethune, Colorado.  On Dec. 24, 1940, he married Esther H.F. Meyer.

He grew up in the Bethune area. He was a man that loved farming and his animals.  After he was married, Albert and Esther lived by Kirk for several years, from 1950-1955 they lived on a farm northeast of Laird.  Then they lived north of Burlington from 1955-1960, and in 1960 they moved north of Wray.

Albert loved to take his daughter to sales and to many fairs.  He met many friends at these sales and loved to go to them.  He was an avid reader of the early history of the land and shared his knowledge with his family.  One of Albert's greatest joys was to gather his grandsons around and tell them stories of his childhood and school days.

In 1969, Albert was diagnosed with cancer.  He was not expected to live or return to his farm, but the good Lord blessed him with 22 more years.  Last December 29, Albert and Esther celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his wife, Ester Marie of Wray; two daughters, Laura Kirby and husband, Larry of Dallas, Texas and Karen Flemming and husband, Doug of Bird City, Kansas; six grandsons; one brother, Chris Schlichenmayer; one sister, Martha Schaal; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna (Jacober) Schlichenmayer; his father, John Schlichenmayer; and son-in-law, Lyle Waters.

Interment was in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Bethune.   Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran church, 312 W. 3rd, Ogallala, Nebraska.
