Albert Schlichenmayer   --  1991

Albert Johann Schlichenmayer was born on Nov. 6, 1913, to John and Anna Schlichenmayer, near Bethune.  Albert was baptized on Feb. 25, 1914, by Pastor Burn at Immanuel Lutheran Church.  He was confirmed on April 8, 1928, by Pastor Kloeckner.  He grew up in the Bethune area and married Esther Marie Stolz on Dec. 24, 1940, by Pastor H. F. Meyer.
Albert was a man that loved his farming and his animals.  After he was married, Albert and Esther lived by Kirk for several years.  From 1950-1955 they lived on a farm northeast of Laird.  Next they lived north of Burlington from 1955-1960 and in 1960 they came and lived north of Wray.  He loved to take his daughters to sales and to many fairs.  He was an avid reader of the early history of the land and shared his knowledge with his family.  One of his greatest joys was to gather his grandsons around and tell them stories of his childhood and school days.  Albert met many friends at these sales and loved always to go to them.  In 1969 Albert was diagnosed with cancer.  He was not expected to live or return to his farm, but the good Lord blessed him with 22 more.  Last Dec. 29, Albert and Esther celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.  On Sept. 7, 1991, Albert was called home by the Lord to the mansions that were prepared for him.
Albert was preceded in death by him mother, Anna (Jacober) Schlichenmayer, his father, John Schlichenmayer, and son-in-law Lyle Waters.
Albert is survived by his wife Esther Marie (Stolz) Schlichenmayer, brother Chris Schlichenmayer, sister Martha Schaal; daughters Laura Kirby and husband Larry of Dallas, and Karen Flemming and husband Doug of Bird City, Kan.; six grandsons and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 11, 1991, at 10 am at Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. David Baker officiating.  Internment was at 2 pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, Bethune.
