Mary Weiss  --  1963

    Mary Weiss, 76, a resident of Kit Carson County for over 50 years, passed away May 18 at the Memorial Hospital in Burlington.  Funeral services were conducted at the St. Pauls Lutheran Church Wednesday, May 22, with Rev.  Walter Rath officiating at the 1:30 p. m. service.  Burial was in Fairview Cemetery. 
   Mary Weiss was born March 28, 1887, in Bessarabia, Russia, the daughter of Christ and Karolina Weiss.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Russia. 
    Leaving Russia, she arrived in this area in 1906.  In 1907 she was united in marriage to Gottfried Weiss at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, north of Bethune.  To this union five children were, born, all of whom are still living.   She and her husband lived on the family farm north of Bethune until 1952 when they moved to Burlington.  She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1958, and a sister, Christina Weiss. 
    Survivors include four sons, W.P. Weiss of Rapid City, S, D.; Otto and Albert Weiss of Bethune, and Reinhard Weiss of Burlington; one daughter, Mrs.  Albert Bauder of Burlington, a brother, Reinhold Weiss of Loveland; 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
