Gottfried Weiss -- 1958
Gottfried Weiss, age 73 years, 1 month and
23 days, son of Carl and Katherine (Statle) Weiss, was born in Ardceese,
Russia, March 5, 1885, and was baptized March 21, 1885, in the Lutheran
church. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Ardceese, Russia,
April 2, 1900.
Gottfried and his parents came to America in 1902,
moving to Bethune, where he homesteaded his farm northwest of town.
In 1907 he was united in holy matrimony to Mary Weiss at Bethune, in Immanuel
Lutheran church. To this union five children were born: William Weiss
of Ipswich, S.D., Otto Weiss of Bethune, Emma Bauder of Burlington, Albert
Weiss of Bethune, and Reinard Weiss of Burlington.
He resided on his farm from 1902 until 1952.
In 1935 Gottfried and his family went to. California, but after a
few months came back to the farm. In 1952 he sold his farm and moved
to Burlington.
He enjoyed good health until 1952 when he began to
fail. In November, 1957, he became more seriously ill, and on April
10, 1958 was taken to the Memorial hospital in Burlington where he passed
away on April 28 at 11:00 p.m.
He and his family were members of Immanuel Lutheran
church, Bethune, until moving to Burlington when he transferred his membership
to St. Paul Lutheran church. He was a faithful church member all
his life and a very kind father.
Gottfried and his wife, Mary, celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary Feb. 16, 1957, with all the children and their families
present, together, with Rev. Flesner and Rev. Boese from Immanuel
Lutheran church, and many friends and relatives. He is survived by
his wife, five children, 16 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two
brothers and two sisters. His two step sisters, parents and one sister
preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held
Friday, May 5, at two
o'clock at St. Paul's Lutheran church, with Pastor D. W. Flesner officiating.

Fred Ziegler, Jake Weisshaar. Burial was at Fairview cemetery.
