Martin Stahlecker - 1996
Martin Stahlecker of Golden departed this life on Thursday,
May 16, 1996, at Sandlewood Hospice Care Center in Wheat Ridge. He was born to
Edward and Margaret (Weisshaar) Stahlecker on Aug. 27, 1928, at Bethune.
He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church of
Bethune and received his education at Blue View Country School.
During a lengthy illness and being in a body cast for most of
a year, he studied and became a licensed taxidermist. He also worked for Frank
Liebl on a farm near Stratton, and later worked in Loveland at the sugar beet
factory. In 1955 he moved to Denver, where he worked at various jobs, and also
received his high school diploma on Sept. 12, 1959.
He was married to Dorothy Owens.
He worked as a shipping clerk for Associated Grocers for 27
years, until ill health forced him to early retirement. His hobby was gardening,
and he had a special love for woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Edgar.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife; two adopted
daughters, Jean Byrd and Dawn Graham; brother Walter and wife Margaret of
Arvada; sisters Helen Gates and husband Ray of Warrenton, Ore., Lenora Weiss and
husband Otto, Irma and husband Ray Chubbuck, Wilma and husband Glenn Maddox; and
sister-in-law Jeanette Stahlecker of Burlington; 4 grandchildren; 1
great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and
friends.
Graveside services were conducted at Crown Hill Cemetery in
Wheat Ridge on Monday, May 20, at 1 p.m., with Reverend Bruce Hermann of Faith
Lutheran Church of Golden, officiating.
