Clord Meyer   --  1999

      Clord Meyer was born at his parent's farm north of Bethune on Aug. 27, 1919, to Conrad and Margaret (Adolf) Meyer.
      On Sept- 28, 1919.  He was baptized by Reverend Gus Adolf at Immanuel Lutheran Church north of Bethune.  He was confirmed on Dec. 26, 1935, by Reverend H.L. Woelber.
      Clord went to country school with his brothers and sister and. spent a lot of his free time hunting and trapping.  He enjoyed the game of baseball all of his life, and got a lot of fun from clowns and their antics.
      On April 26, 1942, he was united in marriage to Clara Beringer of St. Francis, Kan., at Salem Lutheran Church by Reverend O.H. Zeilenger.
      To this union three children were born: Clord D., Dorothy and Dale.
      On June 2, 1942, Clord was inducted into the U.S. Army and served 3 1/2 years during World War II with the 81st Wildcat Infantry Division -- 18 months of which were served in the Pacific Theater of operations, taking him to the Pelelieu Islands, Philippines, and then to Japan.  He was honorably discharged Dec. 7, 1945, at Fort Logan, and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
      After his Army service, Clord, Clara and son Clord D. moved to a farm north of Bethune.  He was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.  He served as Lutheran League sponsor at Immanuel.  He also served as a Settlement 4-H leader for nine years. On Oct. 11, 1962, they moved into the town of Bethune.  After years of failing health he passed away Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999.
      Preceding him in death were his parents, son Dale on April 3, 1983; and son Clord D. on Dec. 25, 1998; along with brothers Conrad, William, Reuben and Norman; sister Alma and brother-in-law Edwin Beringer.
      He leaves his wife Clara; daughter Dorothy; grandson Erick, who made his home with his grandparents since 1984; grandchildren Sheryl Thiede and husband Glen, Stanley and Jamie Meyer; great-grandchildren, Dusty, Paige and Sierra Thiede; sister Mabel Bishop; sisters-in-law Amelia Meyer, Doris Meyer and LaVera Beringer; aunts Martha Adolf, Nettie Hasart and Frieda Weisshaar; nieces and newphews, cousins and friends.
      Services were held Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Bethune.  Reverend Earl Martell officiated at the services.
      Musical selections included a solo, "On the Wings of a Dove," by Denis Stahlecker, and congregational hymns of "Onward Christian Soldiers": and "Pilot Me." Accompanist was Velda Adolf.
Casket bearers were Stanley Meyer, Erick Meyer, Jamie Meyer, Jerry Meyer, Larry Beringer and Glen Thiede.
      Honorary escorts were Chris Schlichenmayer, Ruben Schaal Sr., Harold Weisshaar, Junior weisshaar, David Guy, Lawrence Gramm, Frank Walters, Daniel Weiss, Kenneth Smith, Ralph Adolf, and Albert Coiliss.
      Interment was at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
      Memorial gifts in Clord's name may be left at The First National Bank of Stratton.
