Harold Schlichenmayer   --  1984

     Funeral services for Harold Awald Schlichenmayer were Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the Hope United Church of Christ north of Bethune at 1:30 pm.  Officiating was Dr. Albert Wetzel.
       Song selections included:  "Going Down the Valley," and "Church in the Wildwood," sung by the men's choir.  A solo by Denis Stahlecker, nephew of Harold's was "One Day at a Time".  The pianist for the solo was Velda Adolf and the organist for the choir was Dolores Dobler.
      Casket bearers included Edgar Pratt, Barry Andrews, George McNeill, Dave Richards, Darol Hoschouer and Dale Crist.  Honorary casket bearers were Ira Barnhart, Dale Karspeck, Carl Beckstrom, Ed Grosshans, Don Teman, Doug Hillman, Jess Sanderson and Archie Moore.
      Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Burlington with Hendricks Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
      Harold Awald Schlichenmayer was born on the farm northwest of Burlington, Feb. 20, 1918.  Harold was the youngest son of Christina (Breitiling) and Jacob Schlichenmayer.  Harold was baptized as an infant and confirmed into the Hope Congregational Church. 
      Harold was married to Frieda Stahlecker, Feb. 1, 1941, at Goodland.  To this union were born three daughters, Alice, Carol and Debbie.  After this marriage they lived at Parker and Denver.  Later Harold and Frieda moved to a farm in the settlement.  In 1951, the family moved to Burlington where he resided until his death.  Harold passed away Aug. 31, 1984, at St. Luke's Hospital in Denver, after an extended illness.  Harold worked for DLB Trucking and Burlington Locker and for the past 27 years he has been employed by Kit Carson County.
      Harold leaves to mourn him, his beloved wife, Frieda, their three daughters, Alice Heid, her husband Jack and grandchildren, Rod and Kim.  Carol Bates, her husband, Ernie.  Debbie Graham and grandchildren Shanae and Zanie.  One brother Tefield, of Burlington, one sister, Alvina Stutz of Denver, also one niece, Madlyn Danills of Goodland, who grew up in the home of his parents.
       Preceding him in death were, one grandson, his parents, 6 brothers, Jake, Bill, Johnny, Reinhart, Sechart, Garfield and 3 sisters, Emma Anderson, Bertha Crites and Leona Henry.
     He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
