Ernest `Ernie' Frederick Schick-2005

Longtime Burlington resident Ernest "Ernie" Frederick Schick passed away Friday, April 15, 2005 at Keefe Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne Wells. He was 90 years old. Ernie was born on Aug. 6, 1914 in Newberg, Ore., to Frederick and Irene (Lefaivre) Schick. He was one of five children. Ernie was a graduate of Newberg High School.
On Jan. 7, 1938 Ernie married Leah Barbara Adolf at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bethune. To this union three children were born; Dean, Marilyn and Barbara.   Ernie loved to go fishing, play cards, garden and doing carpentry work. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bethune and Burlington. He was also an active member in his community.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents and wife Leah. He is survived by one son Dean Schick and wife Lolly of Cheyenne Wells; two daughters Marilyn Tafoya of Denver and Barbara Briggs and husband Richard of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Harry Schick of Newport, Ore.; and three sisters, Lomse Barendrecht Forester of Dallas, Ore., Helen Douthit and Rose Newman, both of Newberg, Ore. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Ernie were held on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at 11 a.m. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Burlington with Pastor Jeff Hanson officiating.  Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery in Burlington. Visitation was held one hour prior to services at the church.  Memorials may be made in Ernie's name to First St. Paul's Lutheran Church and may be left at The Bank of Burlington, 410 14th St., Burlington, CO 80807.  Funeral service arrangements were entrusted to Love Funeral Home in Burlington.
