Orland Lee Schlichenmayer -- 2001
Orland Lee Schlichenmayer, age 65, of Burlington, left us to be with his Lord on Sept. 20, 2001, at Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital in Burlington, after his long, hard battle with colon cancer. Orland was born on Aug. 5, 1936, in Burlington. He attended school in Burlington and helped his parents on the homestead. Among things that Orland enjoyed were hunting big game such as deer and elk in the great Rocky Mountains, reading books and making pancakes every Sunday morning.
After leaving home, Orland moved to Denver to pursue his career as a radio technician. It was there that he met his wife Virginia and started a family. He and his family resided in Denver for the next 25 years until his retirement in 1996. He then moved back home to Burlington to spend the rest of his retirement. Orland is preceded in death by his father, John. F. Schlichenmayer, and his mother, Dorothy K. (Schaal) Schlichenmayer. He is survived by his beloved father-in-law, Nash Mondragon of Denver; his beloved wife Virginia C. (Ugaide) Schlichenmayer; his beloved daughter Elizabeth Mary Rodriguez and her husband Loyd O. Rodriguez of Burlington; his five grandchildren; five sisters-in-laws, (four in Denver and one in California; and many, many more nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Funeral services for Orland were held Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at the Love Funeral Home at 3 p.m. with Pastor Paul Barker officiating. A vigil service was held Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at the Love Funeral Home at 6 p.m. with Father Bill Rhinehart officiating. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society and may be left at The Bank of Burlington. Arrangements by the Love Funeral Home, Burlington.
