Robert H. Bauder-1995
Robert H. Bauder was born the son of Gottlieb and Katherine (Fanslau)
Bauder on Saturday, Nov. 9, 1907 in Bethune. Robert was raised and
attended school in Bethune. It was there that he met Frieda J. Weisshaar,
and they were married there on March 8, 1934. In 1935 they moved to
Newberg, Ore., during the Dustbowl era. While living in Newberg, Robert
worked for Spaulding Pulp and Paper Co. (known today as Smurfit Newsprint),
where he worked for 30 years, retiring in 1972. He and Frieda attended
Zion Lutheran Church in Newberg since 1935. He enjoyed bowling, golfing,
and pitching horseshoes.
On Wednesday, July 20, 1995, Robert Bauder died at a local
hospital from causes related to age when he was 87 years, 8 months, and 10 days
of age. Surviving and left to honor his life are: His best friend and wife
of over 61 years, Frieda of Newberg; son Ronald and wife Shirley of Tillamook,
Ore.; two daughters -- Luella of Bellevue, Wash., Mary Jo Groff and
husband John of Dundee, Ore.; sister Anna Bauer of Canadian, Texas;
sister-in-law Sally Bauder of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; 10
great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; and those who have come to
know and appreciate him where he has lived and worked.
Robert's funeral service was Saturday, July 22, 1995 at 1 p.m. at Zion Lutheran
Church in Newberg, with Rev. Norm Olson officiating. Concluding service with
mausoleum entombment followed at Valley View Memorial park in Newberg.
