Dorothea K. Schlichenmayer --

Dorothea K. Schlichenmayer passed away May
22, 1991, at her son's home in Denver, at the age of 80. Dorothea
was born Aug. 29, 1910, to Samuel and Dorothea (Bauder) Schaal in the German
settlement north of Bethune. She was baptized on Oct. 23, 1910, at
Immanuel Lutheran Church.
She grew up with six brothers and two sisters on
her parents' farm north of Bethune. She attended the one-room Yale
School. On April 12, 1925, Dorothea was confirmed in the Lutheran
faith. She was united in marriage to John F. Schlichenmayer on March
24, 1933. This union was blessed with one son, Orland Lee. In the early '40s, they moved to their family
farm where John and Dorothea resided until the time of their deaths.
Dorothea enjoyed being a farm wife, raising
a garden, canning, raising poultry, entertaining family and playing cards.
One of the highlights of her life was the birth of her granddaughter, Elizabeth,
of Feb. 14, 1974. Liz spent many summers with her grandparents on
the family farm.
Dorothea was preceded in death by her husband
John in February of 1983, her parents, Samuel and Dorothea, brothers Jake,
John, Sam, Fred, Carl, George and baby Rudolf, and one sister Louise M.
Holmes. She is survived by her only son, Orland Lee,
his wife Virginia, granddaughter Elizabeth, grandson-in-law Chris Lucero,
great-grandson Christopher, one sister, Helen Knodel of Burlington, and
numerous relatives and friends. Funeral services for Dorothea K. Schlichenmayer
were Tuesday, May 28, 1991, at Hendricks Chapel in Burlington at 1:30 pm,
officiated by Rev. Ron Powers. Pallbearers were: Lawrence Knodel,
Garven Knodel, Chris Lucero, James Schlichenmayer, Chris Dobler, Will Dobler. |
