County Pioneer Died Last Week
Jacob Hasart-1948

Funeral services for Jacob Hasart, Sr., 83, were held Sunday afternoon at the St. Paul’s Lutheran church in Burlington, with the Rev. L. C. Johnson reading the eulogy and obituary. Mr. Hasart was one of the early-day settlers of Kit Carson county.

He came to the United States 59 years ago, settling first near Idalia, and later moving to a farm north of Stratton, where he had made his home since. Jacob Hasart, Sr., was born Nov. 2, 1865, in Bessarabia, South Russia. He came to America in 1889, and established his home north of Stratton in the days of the homesteaders. He had been ill but a short time before his death. The Hendricks ambulance brought Mr. Hasart to the Memorial hospital early last Friday morning, death following within a few hours after he reached Burlington. He is survived by three children, John F. and Jacob, Jr., both of Stratton, and Lena Kirby, of Great Falls, Mont. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister who live in Germany.
