Martha (Adolf) Weiss-2002

Lifetime Kit Carson County resident Martha Margaret (Adolf) Weiss passes away Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002 at Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital in Burlington. She was 88 years old.

Martha Margaret (Adolf) Weiss was born June 9, 1914, near Bethune, to Andrew and Margaret Adolf. She attended country school north of Bethune through the eighth grade. She was baptized as an infant at the Immanuel Lutheran Church and confirmed at the Hope Congregational Church, north of Bethune.

In September of 1940 she married Albert Weiss. They had three children: Larry, Janice and Allan. They lived on a farm north of Bethune and Martha enjoyed raising a garden, canning, baking, and raising chickens. She spent many hours sewing clothes and repairing toys for needy children and sewing quilts tops for Lutheran World Relief. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was active until her health declined.

Martha and Albert moved to Burlington in November 1972. They lived in their home until October 2000, when they moved to The Legacy. Martha resided at The Legacy until Oct. 10, 2001, when she moved to Grace Manor Care Center. She resided there until her death.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert, her daughter Janice, two sisters, and six brothers.

She is survived by her sons, Larry and wife Ruth of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Allan and his wife Evelyn of Bethune. Martha is also survived by eight grandchildren; Leslie and Scott Jones of Kansas City, Mo., Nathan Weiss of Boston, Mass., Aaron Weiss of Marshalltown, Iowa, Alice Weiss of Colorado Springs, Bruce Weiss and his wife Nichol of Burlington, who was born on her Grandma Weiss; 67th birthday. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Services for Mrs. Weiss were Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bethune. Pastor Wesley Dunbar officiated the ceremonies and burial followed at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials can be made in Martha’s name to World Hunger and may be left at The Bank of Burlington in Burlington. Arrangements were by Love Funeral Home of Burlington.
