David Adolf --
David August Adolf was born May 16 1911, in Bethune, to
Andrew and Margaret (Schlichenmayer) Adolf. He lived with his family north
of Bethune until 1942, when he went to Idalia, where he worked for various
farmers for a number of years, and also worked at several sale barns for years,
which he really enjoyed.
In 1970 he moved to Burlington and retired. He
lived gardening and working in his yard. He was baptized as a baby in
1911, and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in 1924 by Pastor Kloeckner.
He then became a member of Hope Congregational Church in 1928.
David passed away Sunday evening, Feb 26, 1995 at Kit
Carson County Memorial Hospital at the age of 83, David was a bachelor all his
life. Preceding him in death were his parents, Andrew and Margaret; brothers
John, Jacob, William, Emmanuel, and twin brother Fred Gottlieb, who passed away
as an infant; and sister Caroline Galli.
Survivors include two sisters -- Freida Gramm and Martha
Weiss, and brother-in-law Albert Weiss, all of Burlington. Also surviving
are two sisters-in-laws, Lydia Adolf of Bethune and Regina Adolf of Sterling;
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for David were held Wednesday
afternoon, March 1, 1995, 2 p.m. at Hope Congregational Church, with Reverend
Ted Meter officiating.
Musical selections included "Nearer My God to Thee,"
"Safe in the Arms of Jesus," and How Great Thou Art." Hope Congregational
Church Men's Choir was accompanied by Velda Adolf and Deb Dobler.
Casket bearers were Allan Weiss, John Gramm, Paul
Harold Adolf, Ron Peake and Junior Weisshaar. Honorary escorts were his
nieces and nephews. Interment was at Hope Cemetery, Bethune.
Memorials may be made to Hope Congregational Church in David's name and left at
The Bank of Burlington.
