David Adolf   --  1995

David August Adolf was born May 16 1911, in Bethune, to Andrew and Margaret (Schlichenmayer) Adolf.  He lived with his family north of Bethune until 1942, when he went to Idalia, where he worked for various farmers for a number of years, and also worked at several sale barns for years, which he really enjoyed.

In 1970 he moved to Burlington and retired.  He lived gardening and working in his yard.  He was baptized as a baby in 1911, and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in 1924 by Pastor Kloeckner.  He then became a member of Hope Congregational Church in 1928.

David passed away Sunday evening, Feb 26, 1995 at Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital at the age of 83, David was a bachelor all his life. Preceding him in death were his parents, Andrew and Margaret; brothers John, Jacob, William, Emmanuel, and twin brother Fred Gottlieb, who passed away as an infant; and sister Caroline Galli.

Survivors include two sisters -- Freida Gramm and Martha Weiss, and brother-in-law Albert Weiss, all of Burlington.  Also surviving are two sisters-in-laws, Lydia Adolf of Bethune and Regina Adolf of Sterling; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for David were held Wednesday afternoon, March 1, 1995, 2 p.m. at Hope Congregational Church, with Reverend Ted Meter officiating.

Musical selections included "Nearer My God to Thee," "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," and How Great Thou Art."  Hope Congregational Church Men's Choir was accompanied by Velda Adolf and Deb Dobler.

Casket bearers were Allan Weiss, John Gramm, Paul Galli, Harold Adolf, Ron Peake and Junior Weisshaar.  Honorary escorts were his nieces and nephews.  Interment was at Hope Cemetery, Bethune.  Memorials may be made to Hope Congregational Church in David's name and left at The Bank of Burlington.
