Regina Runge Adolf – 2004
Regina Alvina Adolf, 94, died
at Sterling on Saturday, June 5, 2004. Regina was born to Edward and Martha
Deinert Runge on Feb 15, 1920 in Pleasant Dale, Neb. Where she attended school
and, in 1923, was confirmed into the Lutheran faith. In 1926, her family moved
by train from Seward County, Neb. to Kanorado, Kan.
Regina was working in
Burlington for the family of Wm. S. Flatt Sr. DDS when she married Emanuel Adolf
on Oct. 10, 1940. The couple farmed in Bethune, until moving to Burlington in
1951 where Emanuel owned and operated Adolf Shoe Shop for 11 years while Regina
was a homemaker and part-time employee of Wm. Flatt Jr. DDS.
In June of 1962 the family
moved to Sterling where they built Adolf Shoe Shop on West Main Street and
operated it until Emanuel retired in 1982. Regina worked for many years at the
Crest Motel. Regina was an active member of First English Lutheran Church, the
Friendship Circle, and the LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League). She
enjoyed traveling to several international LWML conventions; in 1997 she enjoyed
her last convention in Charlotte, N.C. with her four-generation family. Regina
was active in the Sterling Homemakers EH Club for many years and enjoyed her
home, gardening, knitting, crocheting, traveling and riding her 3-wheel bicycle.
She is survived by sons, Alvin
of Sterling, Orvin of Eaton and daughter, Nelda McCoy of Herlong, Calif.; three
granddaughters, Cindy Roinestad, Colorado, Michelle King of Delaware, Ohio, and
Janeen Baldwin of Thomasville, N.C.; two grandsons, Alan Adolf of LaSalle and
Jonathan Adolf of Eaton; four great granddaughters, Mikayla and Amellia Baldwin,
Alia and Kara Roinestad; two great-grandsons, Ian King and Evan Baldwin.
Regina’s sister, LaVera Ellis, a few cousins and many nieces and nephews also
survive her. Preceding her in death was her husband, Emanuel of 47 years, her
parents, sister Frances, and brothers – Marvin, Harold, Richard and Harvey.
Visitation was 10 a.m. to 7
p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Tennant Funeral Home. Funeral services were held
Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at 10 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church with the
Rev. Andrew Dimit officiating. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens in
Sterling. The family suggests memorial donations be made to First English
