From the Kit Carson County Records Newspaper, April 26, 1917.  "Andrew Adolf is driving a new Ford.  Whir r r r r ?  Edward Schaal is working on the Strobel place, cleaning house and fixing up the surroundings.  Jake Weisshaar is also driving a Ford.  We wonder who'll be the lucky girl.  David Schlichenmayer and lady were in town one day last week and the wedding beells [sic] are beginning to ring."

Jakob (Jake) Fredrich Weisshaar-1990

Jakob (Jake) Fredrich Weisshaar was born December 12, 1896 near Idalia, Colorado. He died September 18, 1990.  Jake was baptized February 14, 1897 in St. Paul's Church at Idalia, and was confirmed at  Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bethune.  He served in the army in World War I from October to December of 1918.  He was united in marriage to Carrie Westerbuhr on December 12, 1921. This marriage was blessed with three children; Harold, Lee, and Alvina.

When first married they lived on a farm near Republican City, Nebraska. They then moved to near Wilcox. and later lived near Hildreth, Nebraska.  In 1931 they began farming 4 miles west and 10 miles north of Burlington, Colorado., They moved into Burlington in early 1947. Jake then worked at McArthur Implement Co. as parts man. In 1956 he again became engaged in farming until his retirement in 1962.  The last 6 months he made his home at Grace Manor Care Center.

Jake was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carrie, 2 brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his two sons; Harold and wife Esther, Lee and wife Leona, daughter; Alvina Guy and husband David. 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, 1 brother Karl and three sisters, Margaret, Pauline and Anna.
