Obituary of Carl J. HURTZ

     Carl J. Hurtz, 90, of Rt. 1 Wymore, died Saturday morning, July 12, 1997 at the Beatrice Community Hospital.  He was born Oct. 8, 1906, near Wymore, and lived in the Wymore vicinity all his life.  He and Velma Harms were married on August 31, 1930.  They lived on farms in the Wymore area.  He was on the board of directors of Harrison-Hurtz Enterprises, Inc. from 1976 until 1993.  He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Wymore.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and growing vegetables.
     Survivors include his daughter, Shirley Harrison and husband Robert, Route, Wymore; son, Robert P. Hurtz, Route, Wymore; grandchildren, Gregory, Robert P., and Todd Harrison and Carla A. Wilcox; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Walter Hurtz, Route, Wymore and Paul Hurtz and wife, Mae, Burbank, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.
     He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma, on Aug. 17, 1989; parents Anton and Anna (Paul) Hurtz; brothers, Albert, Bill and Tony Hurtz; sister, Katherine Taylor, Lena Shoff, and Amy Jones.
     Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Wymore, with Father Dennis Hotovy officiating.  Interment was in the Calvary cemetery, Wymore.  A memorial has been established with the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in charge.  Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home, Wymore, was in charge of arrangements.

Velma Hurtz, 79, of Wymore, died Thursday, Aug 17, 1989, at her home following a lengthily illness.  She was born Jan. 15, 1910, in rural Wymore and was a 1928 graduate of Wymore High School.  She married Carl J. Hurtz Aug. 30, 1930, and in recent years was an integral part of Harrison-Hurtz Enterprises, Inc.  She was an accomplished seamstress and was actively involved in local bridge clubs and gardening up until her illness.  She was a Wymore native.

She is survived by husband, Carl J. Hurtz of Wymore; daughter, Mrs. Robert (Shirley A.) Harrison, and son Robert P. both of Wymore; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Christine (Kramer) Harms; and a brother, Norman Harms. 

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug 21, 1989, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wymore, with Fr. Dennis Hotovy officiating.  Memorials to the family.  Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home, Wymore, was in charge of arrangements.
