Samuel Schmidke
Samuel Schmidke, 87, a former resident of Lodi, died Sunday in
a Carmichael hospital after an extended illness.
A native of Russia, he came to California and to Lodi in 1935
and lived here until 1948. He returned here in 1964 and stayed until six
months ago when he moved to Carmichael. He was a retired carpenter.
He is survived by two sons, Lee Schmidke of Lodi and Emil
Schmidke of North Sacramento; five daughters, Mrs. Miriam Werner of Lodi, Mrs.
Emma McDowell and Mrs. Hilda Schleining of Sacramento, Mrs. Elsie Mittleider of
Los Angeles and Mrs. Esther Appel of Washington; 14 grandchildren and 14
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the
chapel of the Gierhart & Wells Funeral Home.
Burial will be at Cherokee Memorial Park.
