Edna Lorraine Bartman Stahlecker was born to
Edward and Elva Smith Bartman on Oct. 23, 1918, on the farm north of Burlington.
She grew up in the Happy Hollow neighborhood where she attended Sunday school
and school. Early in life she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and daily
lived her faith in Christ.
She graduated from Burlington High School in 1936 and attended college at
Colorado State College, (UNC) in Greeley.
After receiving her teaching certificate, she taught grades 1-8 in various
country schools in Kit Carson County. In 1960, she received her Bachelor of Arts
degree and taught third grade in the Seibert and High Plains schools until she
retired in 1984.
Edna married Edward Richard Stahlecker on Sept. 12, 1946, and resided on a farm
north of Seibert. To this union, four children were born: Hazel Marie, Marlis
Jean, Melva Lynn and Denis Edward.
In 1984, she moved to Burlington to make her home with Denis and served as a
volunteer at the Colorado Welcome Center for several years. She enjoyed visiting
with her friends and relatives. Her pride and joy were her four grandchildren
whom she loved dearly and looked forward to being with them.
She was preceded in death by parents, her husband, Ed, her daughter Marlis, who
was killed in the Flagler Air Show at the age of two years, two sisters, Grace
Baker and Minnie Gaebel, and two brothers, Clifford and Wilford Bartman.
She is survived by her daughter and husband, Hazel and Dale Lengel of Greeley,
her daughter Mevla of Ovid, her son Denis of Burlington and four grandchildren,
Erin Dale, Nathan Benjamin, Jaron Edward and Kalyn Marie Lengel. She also leaves
her brother, Lawrence Bartman of Denver, her two sisters, Edith Hixenbaugh of
Denver and Louise Wagner of West Liberty, Iowa, her sister-in-law, Pauline
Knodel and Frieda Schlichenmayer of Burlington, her brother-in-law, William
Baker and wife Frances of Jackson, Tenn., Julius Stahlecker and wife Myrtle of
Loveland, Jake Stahlecker and wife Lillian of Castleford, Idaho, and Ralph
Stahlecker and wife Elma of Burlington plus many nieces and nephews and a host
of friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the Hope
Congregational Church north of Bethune with the Pastor Ted Meter and Pastor Rick
Messer officiating. Song selections were "Sitting at the Feet of Jesus" and
"When I Get Home" by the Hope Mens Choir and "Constantly Abiding" and Till the
Storm Passes By" by the congregation. Pallbearers were Denis Stahlecker, Dale
Lengel, Loel Decker, Tom Baker, Dan Gaebl, Chuck Hixenbaugh, Richard Wagner and
Bill Baker Jr.
Interment was in the Hope Congregational Cemetery. Arrangements were by
Hendricks-Love Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the Hope Congregational
Church of "Back to the Bible" broadcast and left with Heritage Branch First
National Bank of Lamar. |
