Louis Lloyd Schaal passed away at home Thursday, March 6, 2008
after a lengthy illness due to cancer. He was born May
27, 1938 to Emil and Pauline C. Schaal in Burlington Colorado. He was
raised on a farm north of town. He was baptized and confirmed in the Hope
Congregational Church north of Bethune. He graduated from Burlington High
School in 1956. He worked for a while in Laverne, Minn., then returned to
Burlington and worked for Caldwell's. He met and married Connie Merz,
Nov. 27, 1960. To this union three children were born. Tammy
Whitehurst, Fruita; Rabin Collier, Golden Valley, Ariz., David Schaal, Delta. Louis
served with the Burlington National Guard Medical Corps during the Berlin
crisis. He was honorably discharged in 1961. Louis and Connie moved to Olathe,
in 1969 where he went to work for Montgomery Ward. After Montgomery Ward closed,
Louis and Kerry Frasier formed their own appliance business called Tri-River
Appliance and Refrigeration along with their spouses Connie and Cathy.
Louis retired, leaving the business in the very capable hands of Kerry and Cathy
Frasier. In 2007, Louis and Connie sold their Olathe home and moved to
Golden Valley, Ariz., to enjoy the warm sun and clean, dry air. While
retired Louis enjoyed spending more time with his wife Connie, children and
grandchildren, woodworking, hunting, fishing, boating, traveling on
cruises to the Caribbean Islands. Louis will be lovingly
remembered by this wife Connie, their children and grandchildren, Tammy, Steve,
Ryan, Melissa, Andrew Whitehurst; Robin Rick, Tyler Collier; David, Michelle,
Cameron, Marcy Schaal. Sisters: Viola Stover, Dolores Dobler;
sisters-in-law, Carol Schaal, Reta Schaal, Janice Merz; brothers-in-law and
wives; Phil and Carol Merz, Doyle and Dianne Merz, plus many nephews and nieces,
many, many wonderful friends. Louis was preced in death by his parents Emil and
Pauline C. Schaal. Three sisters-in-law; Donna Schaal, Helen Schaal, and
Evelyn Schaal. |
