John B. Baltzer,
95, former Napoleon area resident, died Friday, July 17, 1987 at Mercy
Folsom Hospital in Folsom, CA. Funeral services were held Wednesday,
July 22, 2:00 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran church, Napoleon, with Pastor Mike
Elias officiating. Burial was in the Napoleon city Cemetery with
Nickisch Funeral Home, Napoleon, in charge.
Mr. Baltzer was born March 20, 1892 in
Burlington, CO, the son of Andreas and Carolina (Strobel) Baltzer.
In 1910, at the age of 18, he came with his parents to Glendale Township
where they homesteaded five miles north of Napoleon. He married Emma
Weber in April, 1919, in a triple ceremony at Wishek. The couple
farmed until 1969 when they moved into Napoleon. John also worked
as a county road grader during the depression years and worked with the
Soil Conservation planting trees.
His wife died September 3, 1977. In 1980,
he moved to Folsom, CA to lie with his daughter Ruth.
John was a charter member of the Logan
County Soil Conservation District, and had served on the Glendale Township
school board.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Dick
(Ruth) Reynolds, Folsom, CA and Mrs. Robert (Linda) Mitzel, Hampton, VA;
one son, Robert Baltzer, Garden Grove, CA; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren;
one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Emma Weber, Woodburn, OR and Martha
Kane, Hamilton, MT; two brothers Arthur, Lyons, OR and Jake, Napoleon.
He was preceded in death by two sons,
one brother, one sister, one grandchild, and his wife, Emma.
Pallbearers were Dick Reynolds, Michael
Baltzer, Tim Baltzer, Terry Baltzer, Bruce Baltzer and Glen Newman.
Honorary pallbearers were John M. Wolf, Andrew
D. Bauer, John Fettig, Hap Regner and Herman Eichele.
