Beata Bauer - 1946

Settlement friends were saddened to learn of the passing of Mrs. Beata Bauer, 79, a resident of this county for 43 years.  She had been in failing health, and on April 3 she fell, suffering a fractured arm, knee and hip.  She was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, and died Sunday, April 7. Most of her children were at her bedside when the end came.

Beata Bauer was born Dec. 3, 1866, in Culm, South Russia, where she was baptized in her infancy and confirmed at the age of 14 years.  She was married to Wilhelm Hayne in South Russia in 1884.  To this marriage six children were born, Mary Degering, Andrew Hayne, Fred Hayne and Tillie Mitchell. An infant and John died at 4 years of age.  Her first husband died in 1900.

In 1903 she came with her four children to Bethune, Colo. In the same year she married Andrew Bauer with whom she settled on a homestead 12 miles north of Bethune.  To this union were born six children:  August, Albert, Anna Wynkoop, Thresa Hooker, Eduard and Theodore. She also leaves behind three step children, Margaret Adolf, Martin Bauer, Christina Schlichenmayer, 32 grand children and 19 great grandchildren.  One step-son Fred, died in 1934, as did her second husband.

After the death of her second husband, she made her home with her son, Albert, alternating with other children in the vicinity. Gradually her health waned her eyesight failing.  Previous to her death she had been making her home with her daughter, Thresa Hooker.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at the Immanuels Lutheran church in the Settlement at 2:00 o'clock, with the Rev. H.L. Woelber officating. Burial will be in the Immanuels church cemetery.
