Beata Bauer - 1946
Settlement friends were saddened to learn of the passing of
Mrs. Beata Bauer, 79, a resident of this county for 43 years. She had been
in failing health, and on April 3 she fell, suffering a fractured arm, knee and
hip. She was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, and died Sunday, April
7. Most of her children were at her bedside when the end came.
Beata Bauer was born Dec. 3, 1866, in Culm, South Russia, where
she was baptized in her infancy and confirmed at the age of 14 years. She
was married to Wilhelm Hayne in South Russia in 1884. To this marriage six
children were born, Mary Degering, Andrew Hayne, Fred Hayne and Tillie Mitchell.
An infant and John died at 4 years of age. Her first husband died in 1900.
In 1913 she came with her four children to Bethune, Colo. In
the same year she married Andrew Bauer with whom she settled on a homestead 12
miles north of Bethune. To this union were born six children:
August, Albert, Anna Wynkoop, Thresa Hooker, Eduard and Theodore. She also
leaves behind three step children, Margaret Adolf, Martin Bauer, Christina
Schlichenmayer, 32 grand children and 19 great grandchildren. One step-son
Fred, died in 1934, as did her second husband.
After the death of her second husband, she made her home with
her son, Albert, alternating with other children in the vicinity. Gradually her
health waned her eyesight failing. Previous to her death she had been
making her home with her daughter, Thresa Hooker.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at the Immanuels
Lutheran church in the Settlement at 2:00 o'clock, with the Rev. H.L. Woelber
officating. Burial will be in the Immanuels church cemetery.
