William Adolf Sr., son of Christ Adolf and his wife,
Fredericka Adolf nee Steg was born in Brienne Bessarabia on the 22nd day of May,
1867. He was baptized in the Lutheran Faith, and confirmed on March 24,
1883..
He was schooled in the trade of Wagon Maker, which profession
he followed in the Old Country.
In 1888 on June 21st he was united in holy Matrimony with
Margareta Buchfink. In the year 1889, the family moved into South Russia,
in the colony of Michaelsfeld near the town of Anaba. Here he pursued his
trade of wagon maker.
In June of 1908 he came to the United States with some of the
children and moved into the Settlement. His wife, stayed in Bessarabia
because of sickness and followed him here after three months.
Thirteen children were born to this union while the parents
lived in Russia, however, three of the children died as children. One more
child was born in this country.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Margareta, six sons
Gottlieb, Carol, and John of Bethune; William of Newberg Oregon; and August of
Laramie, Wyoming. Five Daughters, Margaret Meyer of Bethune; Christine
Lessing of Denver; Mary Kramer of Loveland; Nettie Hasart of Stratton; and Mrs.
Freda Weisshaar of Idalia. There are 39 grandchildren and 32 great grand
children.
