Katie Bauder Coad - 1998

     Katie M. Coad, 106 years of age and former resident of Kit Carson County, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, in a nursing home at San Antonio, Texas. Katie Bauder was born Oct. 25, 1891, in Burlington, to Andrew and Christina Bauder.  She married Cecil C. Coad on May 23, 1916. They owned and operated a ranch near Idalia until 1947 when they moved to Canon City.
     Mrs. Coad was a housewife who enjoyed cooking, gardening, and playing cards.  Her husband preceded her in death in 1984. In 1993, she and her daughter, Lucille Barber, moved to San Antonio, Texas.  Survivors include her daughter Lucille; one granddaughter, Claudia and her husband Fred Lauten; one great-granddaughter, Michelle, all of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters: Bertha (Mrs. Theron) Castle of Roundup, Mont., and Clara Loyd of Craig; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also preceding her in death were her parents; three sisters Christina Hartl, Mary Quiggle, and Louise Quiggle; five brothers Andrew, Chris, Bill, Ludwig and Carl.
     A graveside service was held at Lakeside Cemetery in Canon City Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
