Donna Kay Richards Powell -- 2001

The Burlington Record, Burlington, Colorado
Thursday, March 1, 2001

Family and friends celebrated the life of Donna Kay Powell, 62, on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, 10:30 a.m., at Bethune School. Father Greg Adolf and Pastor Wesley Dunbar officiated.  Praise music was beautifully provided by Willie Sharp and The Group.  Casket bearers were brothers-in-law Fred Colglazier and Bob Young, nephews Kirby and Stan Powell, and special friends, James Foos and James Poole. Honorary pall bearers were grandchildren- Kellee and Kash Mangus, Shawn and KayCee Powell, Dustin and Derek Eley.  Donna Kay was laid to rest in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery north of Bethune.

Donna Kay was born to David and Amanda Richards on Nov. 14, 1938. She attended and graduated from Bethune Schools.  She was united in marriage to Lester Powell on May 25, 1956. To this union two children were born - Shelly Powell Mangus and Scott Powell.  Donna Kay was a faithful servant of God and enjoyed sharing His love with everyone.  She loved the outdoors and shepherding her sheep. Agriculture, livestock, and being a bean broker at Burlington Marketing were the great joys of her life.  "Nana" was totally devoted to her grandchildren. She traveled many miles to school programs, ball games, rodeos, fun trips, and love-bonding weekends!

"Daddy" David Richards preceded her in death.  Survivors include her mother Amanda Richards of Burlington; children Shelly and husband Kenny Mangus of Anadarko, Okla., Scott and wife April Powell of Palmer, Alaska; beloved friends Kathy Powell of Crowell, Texas, Manuel Flores of Bethune, brother Duaine Richards and wife Ardith of Palmer, Alaska, sister Esther Young and husband Bob of Burlington, sister Mary Colglazier and husband Fred of Burlington.  She is also lovingly missed by nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephew.

Memorial gifts may be given in Donna Kay's memory to the Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital/Nursing Association and the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Building Fund at The Bank of Burlington.
