Fred Schlichenmayer -- 1946
Fred William Schlichenmayer,
who lived northwest of Burlington since his boyhood days, was the son of
Jacob Schlichenmayer and his wife, Margareta Kiensle. He was born
at the Landman, Kit Carson county, then know as Arapahoe county, May 4,
1890. He was baptized June 22, 1890, in the then known Salems church,
and was confirmed at about the age of 16. Later he joined the Immanuels
Lutheran Church north of Bethune.
On Aug. 25, 1932, he was
united in marriage to Miss Lily Elliott. One child was born to this
union.
In May, 1944, his health
began to fail him. On Feb. 20, 1946, he underwent an operation for
appendicitis and was discharged from the hospital March 1 with he best
prospects for a complete recovery. However, another affliction suddenly
began to alarm his family and he was rushed to the Community hospital in
Burlington on March 2. A brain tumor began to paralyze the functioning
of his breathing organs. An operation was out of the question for
various reasons, and other methods applied were ineffective. On March
3, at 3:07 pm, he passed away, at the age of 55 years, nine months and
28 days. Three months ago to the date, his brother John died.
He leaves to mourn his passing
his wife Lily and one daughter, Lucille, age 12; two brothers, Gottlieb
and Dave Schlichenmayer of Bethune; three sisters, Mrs. Christina Flaum,
in Kiowa, Colo.; Margarete Adolf, Bethune, and Lizzy Metcalf, Fort Collins.
He was buried in the Immanuels
Lutheran Cemetery March 8, at two o'clock, the Rev. H. L. Woelbar officiating.
The Hendricks mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
