Clarence V. Schaal - 1968
Funeral services for Clarence V. Schaal were held Tuesday, Jan
30, at 2:00 p.m. at Hope Congregational Church with the Rev. Arthur Hoffman
officiating. Musical selections were provided by the Strobel quartet,
accompanied at the organ by Sandy Strobel. Casketbearers were Wayne
Schiffner, Jim Newcomb, Darrell Morrow, Hal Williams, Roy Hicks and Milt Mathis.
Members of the Burlington Jaycees were honorary bearers. Final resting
place was Fairview Cemetery. Clarence Victor Schaal, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb E. Schaal, was born Dec. 6, 1936, in Burlington.
He passed away Jan 26, 1968, at the age of 31 years, 1 month and 20 days.
He was baptized by the Rev. John Hoelzer into the Christian faith Jan. 24, 1937,
in the Hope Congregational Church of Bethune, and he was confirmed by the Rev.
William Schaeffer on June 15, 1952, he accepted Christ as his savior thru
confirmation. He was united in marriage to Vivian Fern Brown of Englewood
by the Rev. Herbert Wilske June 1, 1958. To this union were born three
children, Dian Elaine, 8; Sherry Eillen, 7; and a son, Duane Dean, 2.
Clarence lived in Burlington and was employed at the A.S.C.
office for the past 14 years and served in the National Guard for a term of
eight years. He was an active church member, sang in the choir and was
superintendent of the Sunday school at the time of his death. He served as
a member of the board of education and served three years as a trustee of the
church. He was an active member of the Jaycees and a past president.
He was a loving and devoted husband and father and was always ready to help
those who asked a favor. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife; two
daughters, Dian and Sherry; one son, Duane; his parents; two sisters, Virginia
(Mrs. Dan Weiss of Bethune), and Ann (Mrs. Danny Chalfant) of Burlington,
besides a host of relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by
a brother who died in infancy. |
