Ruby Helen KNODEL
Schlichenmayer -- 2005
Ruby Helen Schlichemnayer was born to Jim and Dora (Schaal) Knodel on Oct. 26,
1923 on their farm north of Bethune. Ruby was baptized and confirmed
at Hope Church north of Bethune. After the death of her mother Dora, Ruby and
her sister Esther lived with her Knodel grandparents until the age of seven when
her father was married to Vera Dobler. Ruby attended school at the Blue
View country school north of Bethune. She went to school through the 8th grade,
until she was needed to help at home after the death of her father. Ruby worked
at various places in Burlington including Bell Telephone as a switchboard
operator, a job she, held until her marriage to Chris Schlichenmayer in 1947.
The couple was married at Immanuel Lutheran Church. To this union were born two
sons, Roy and Tom. Ruby enjoyed living on the farm and driving around looking at
the crops and cattle. She was active in her church and made many quilts for the
church as well as for her family. Ruby lost her battle to cancer on Tuesday,
Aug. 30, 2005.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Dora
Knodel; her stepmother Vera Strobel; her sister-in-law Martha Schaal; her
brother-in-law Albert Schlichenmayer and her half-sister Alice Gramm. Ruby
is survived by her husband Chris Schlichenmayer of Bethune; her son Roy and wife
Marilyn and granddaughters Jessy and Molly of Burlington; her son Tom of
Bethune; her sister Esther Gramm and husband Edmund Gramm of Stratton; her half
brother Paul Knodel and wife Mildred of Lakewood; her half-sister Jeanette Amman
and husband Gene of Ogden, Utah; her sister-in-law Esther Schlichenmayer of
Wray; her brother-in-law Melvin Gramm and wife Connie of Keenesburg; and many
nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services for Ruby were held on Saturday, Sept.
3, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church north of Bethune, with Pastor
Roger Millheim officiating. Burial followed in the Immanuel Lutheran
Cemetery in Bethune. Memorials may be made in Ruby's name to Caring Hands
Hospice or to the church and many be left at the Blank of Burlington.
Funeral service arrangements were entrusted to Love Funeral Home in Burlington. |
