Alamosa resident Andrew "Andy" J.
Stahlecker, 88, died Thursday, May 15, 2003, at the Evergreen Nursing Home in
Alamosa. Andy was born April 20, 1915, in Bethune to Johannes and Maria
Dobler Stahlecker. He was united in marriage to Doris E. Swedin in Rocky Ford on
Jan 20, 1952. Beginning in 1937 Andy worked 32 years on
the Medano Ranch located 12 miles east of Hooper. In 1973 he moved his
family to Alamosa where he worked for the county of Alamosa and for the Alamosa
Senior Citizens Center. In 1997 he retired from the senior citizens center
after 17 years. Andy's interests and hobbies woodworking and ranching and
he was known as a "jack of all trades." He is survived
by his wife Doris Stahlecker of Alamosa; six children -- John (Valerie)
Stahlecker of Smithville, Texas, Earl (Kathleen) Stahlecker of Gatesville,
Texas, Crystal (Michael) Hudson of Alamosa, Virginia Stahlecker of Alamosa;
Viola Stahlecker of Durango; and Dinah (Sidney) Medina of Alamosa; two
sisters -- Lydia Adolf of Bethune and Dorothea Klein of Wray; and one brother
Walter Stahlecker of Colorado Springs; five grandchildren -- Angela
(Scott) Roberson, Adrianna (Michael) Brown, Aaron Stahlecker, Joshua Hudson, and
John Medina; two great-grandchildren -- Trace and Trevor Roberson and numerous
nieces and nephews. Cremation was performed at the
Rogers Family Mortuary Crematory and a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m.
Saturday May 24, 2003, at the Alamosa Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
