Fern Gramm-2009
Fern Esther Knodel Gramm passed away peacefully, November 20,
2009, in Burlington, Colorado, after years of living in the Burlington Care
Center. Fern was the oldest child of Mollie (Mai) and David Knodel. Fern was
born December 12, 1920 in her parents’ home in a small adobe house north of
Bethune, where the Cure Ranch is located now. Fern attended a country school
until her parents moved to a place north of Bethune where she started 5th grade
at the Bethune High School and graduated in 1939 as valedictorian of her class.
She enjoyed playing half court basketball in school. Denver Pyle was a classmate
of Fern’s.
Fern then attended business college in Colorado Springs,
Colorado. Fern then married Loyd Richard Gramm, October 18, 1942. To this union
were born 3 children, George William, Ronald Lee, and Judy Elaine, two
grandchildren, Lucas Langendoerfer who is in the service overseas, and Hannnah
Langendoerfer, who is attending college at Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas. Loyd
preceded Fern in death July 11, 1999.
Fern and Loyd had a cattle ranch/farm north of Bethune for
many years, and their son Ron and wife Diane are farming/ranching on the same
land that has been in the Gramm family for generations.
Fern was baptized, went to conformation school at the Hope
Congregational Church. Fern was also active in social events with the Ladies
Aide and church functions.
Fern is survived by sisters, Elnora Christine Bolton,
Charlotte Ann Lyle, and Linda Kay Leach, sister-in-law Thelma Knodel, several
nieces and nephews.
Fern is preceded in death by her parents, only brother, Louis
George Knodel. She was laid to rest next to her husband Loyd R. Gramm in the
Hope Cemetery. Fern will be missed by all her family and friends.
