Longtime Kit Carson County Colorado resident
Lydia Christine Schaal, age 93, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 20,
2002, at Grace Manor Care Center in Burlington, where she resided for four
years.
Lydia was born July 18, 1908, in Bethune, to
Christina W. (Dobler) and Peter Knodel.
On April 15, 1931 Lydia was united in marriage to
Matt Schaal in Bethune. They were marred for 55 years. She was a member of the
United Methodist Church and the UMW Ladies Aide of Stratton.
Lydia is preceded in death by her parents; her
husband Matt; and 6 brothers and sisters.
Surviving family members are her four children -
Ruby Thompson (Francis) of Stratton, Daniel Schaal (Alberta) of Stratton, Ivan
Schaal (Betty) of Denver, and Leon Schaal of Stratton; seven grandchildren - Joe
Leoffler, Susan Wyrick, Linda Weaver, Alice Schaal, Christy Crowthers, Gary
Schaal, and Susan Sorensen; and eight great-grandchildren - LynAnn and Jadan
Weaver, Lisa Leoffler, Kenney, Erik, and Matthew Crowthers, Alyssa and Andrew
Sorensen.
Funeral services for Lydia were Thursday, May 23,
2002 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Stratton. Pastor Todd
Everhart officiated. Burial followed in the Claremont Cemetery at Stratton.
Jean McGriff, Velda Adolf, LynAnn Weaver and the
Hope Congregational Quartet provided musical selections.
Casket bearers were Gary Schaal, Mike Wyrick, Joe Leoffler, Victor Crowthers;
Ryan Weaver and Lloyd Knodel.
Honorary bearers were Jim Garner and Jon Sorensen.
Memorials may be made in Lydia's name to the
United Methodist Church, Stratton, and may be left at First National Bank of
Stratton.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Love Funeral
