Margaret Stahlecker -2005

Margaret M. Stahlecker passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital in Denver on Saturday, May 7, 2005. She was born on Oct. 23, 1911 in Globeville, (which is now part of Denver) to John and Margaret Kramer Lofink. 

When she was very young, the family moved to Nebraska. After several years, Margaret's mother and her two sisters moved back to Colorado and settled in Bethune.  She attended country school and later in years married Otto Stahlecker on. Jan. 29, 1929 in St. Francis, Kan. 

They farmed north of Bethune and lived in an adobe house. She was a homemaker. Six of their children were born there. In February, 1946 the family moved to Berthoud on a 15-acre tract east of town. They later moved into town and had a home built.  In 1981 Otto suffered a stroke and died. Since that time, Margaret and her son Leonard have lived in that home. She recently became ill and was hospitalized. She had been at Lifecare Center of Longmont for several weeks, became ill and was transferred to St. Joseph's in Denver where she passed away under Hospice care. 

She is survived by sons, Ervin and wife Pansy of Fort Collins, Leonard of Berthoud, and Robert of Denver, daughters, Laverna Depperschmidt and husband Robert of Loveland, Mabel Crites and husband George of Las Vegas, Nev., Irene Aschenbrenner of Dexter, N.M., Linda Schroetlin and husband Jim of Yuma; Denise Schleiger and husband Dale of Loveland. 

Also survived by 1 sister Mabel Witten of Parker, sister-in-law Lois Stahlecker of Loveland, 2 brothers-in-law, Elmo Thompson of Thornton, Martin Kramer of Denver. 

Margaret has 20 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by husband Otto, an infant daughter, 3 sisters: Christine Rouse, Elsie Kramer and Violet Thompson. Six sisters-in-law and 8 brothers-in-law and 1 son-in-law. 

Services were held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1101 Hilltop Drive on May 11, 2005 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers family requests memorials may be made to Hospice of Denver in care of Viegut Funeral Home. 

Viewing was 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 6 at Viegut Funeral Home. Burial was in Resthaven Memory Gardens.
