Ray Dean Schlichenmayer -- 1962
Ray Dean Schlichenmayer,
19-year-old Idalia youth, died Sunday morning, Feb. 18, of injuries received
in an automobile accident. The accident occurred about 2 am Sunday
on Highway 385 one mile north of the county line in Yuma County.
He was taken to the hospital in Wray where he died seven hours later of
head and chest injuries.
State patrolman Ernest Ankenman
said a passenger, Gordon Wayne Stutheit, 19, also of Idalia, was injured
when Schlichenmayer's car left the road and rolled 2 1/2 times. Stutheit
was also taken to the Wray Hospital with a broken wrist, shoulder injury
and cuts and bruises.
Ray is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Reinhart Schlichenmayer of Bethune. Other survivors include
three sisters, Geraldine Carter of Longmont, Phyllis Griffith of Otis and
Linda of Bethune; two brothers, Lee of Idalia and Dale of Bethune; and
other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted
Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 2 pm at the Immanuel Lutheran church north of Bethune.
The Rev. Walter Rath officiated at the services and the Hendricks mortuary
was in charge of arrangements.
Ray Dean Schlichenmayer
was born June 21, 1942, at the Burlington Hospital and departed this life
Feb. 18 at the age of 19 years, 7 months and 28 days.
He grew up in the Settlement
north of Bethune and attended the Bethune schools, graduating in May of
1960. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at the
Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bethune.
Ray had been employed at
the Idalia Oil Co. in Idalia since August of 1961. He was well like
by all who knew him and will be missed by all.
He is survived by his parents,
Reinhart and Anna Schlichenmayer; three sisters, Geraldine Carter of Longmont,
Phyllis Griffith of Otis and Linda Schlichenmayer of Bethune; two brothers,
lee of Idalia and Dale of Bethune; two brothers-in-law, Vern Carter and
Bill Griffith; a sister-in-law, Jaque Schlichenmayer of Idalia; two nieces
and two nephews; his grandfather, Martin Weiss of Bethune; and a host of
other relatives and friends.
Funeral services and burial
were at the Immanuel Lutheran Church north of Bethune Wednesday, Feb. 21,
at 2 pm. Services were conducted by the Rev. W. H. Rath of the First
St. Paul Lutheran Church of Burlington. Pall bearers were Ralph Stolz,
Virgil Eslinger, Clord Adolf, Nolan Carroll, Jerry Meyer and Harold Adolf.
