History of the Yale Post Office In the fall of 1886, Sherman H. YALE, his wife Sarah BEVIER Yale and two children Lillian Mae and William Henry came to in Kit Carson County, Colorado and settled in the area that later became the heart of the Settlement. Mr. Yale came out earlier that year to file on a homestead and build a small sod house on the North East corner of Section 12 Township 7S Range 45W -- today this is known as the Samuel Schaal Place at 28951 County Rd. 43 (Corner of Road GG and 43 -- 11 miles north and 3 miles east of Bethune.) For the first three years, Mr. Yale was
contracted to carry mail from Jacqua, Kansas to Friend,
Colorado. In 1889 a post office was established in their
home and the Yales carry the mail on a route from Burlington
to the Goff Post Office, then to Landman Post Office, and then
to their home post office, a distance of fifty-two miles.
Their home post office became known as, Yale, Colorado. Mr.
Yale also ran a store together with his post office and was
later county assessor and county commissioner. The post
office was in official operation until 1905. In 1914,
Sam SCHAAL, Sr. bought the place.
