Kit Carson County Cattlemen History
Settlement Family Registry  -- Bethune, Colorado

In 1956 Roy Bader, who was then the Secretary of the Kit Carson County Cattlemen's Association, started compile histories and stories about the Cattlemen & Women in the County. Mr. Bader died suddenly in 1961 and his wife Avis WAGNER Bader completed the project.  In 1963 a 130 page booklet with these materials was published by the Association.  It has since been reprinted.

The materials for this book were obtained from the following:
Stories written by the early pioneers and published in the Burlington Call in the 1930's, and from talking to the few old-timers that are left, also from the accounts found in some early day newspapers, the Burlington Republican, 1895 and on, and from the Kit Carson County Record, 1901 and on, loaned by Mrs. Mabel Parke whose parents and grandparents were early day pioneer settlers and cattlemen in Kit Carson County.
  • Burlington Record. Flagler News.

  • Henry Hoskin's Scrapbook.
  • The Kit Carson Co. Ranch and Farm Guide and other records found in the County Agent's Office. Colorado, by Hafen and Hafen.
